Study Room Use

Group vs. Individual Use: The library’s study rooms are primarily for the use of two or more persons [a “group”] who must converse with one another. Generally, a group’s need for study room space will take precedence over an individual’s need. Single users of a study room may be asked to give up the room before their session expires if it is needed for a group.

Booking a Room: Use of a study room must be arranged at the library’s Main Desk. Generally, study rooms may be used only as they become available and on a “first-come-first-served” basis. A waiting list will be kept if both rooms are occupied. Advance reservations are restricted to the following: Patrons may reserve a study room on the same day during which they wish to use the room. However, each patron, whether singly or as part of a group, will be limited to one such advance reservation each week.

Time Limits: Study rooms may be used for two hours between 9:00 a.m. [or when the library opens] and 3:00 p.m. and for a one hour between 3:00 p.m. and closing time. The length of these sessions may be extended if no other patrons are waiting to use a room.

Room Capacities: Study Room A may be used by up to six persons at a time. Study Room B may be used by up to four persons at a time.

IDs and Signatures Required: All individuals who use a study room, whether singly or as part of a group, must both leave a personal ID at the Main Desk and sign this form. This must be done each time a room is used. Failure to do so will result in dismissal of the individual or group from the room.

Rules of Behavior: Those using study rooms must comply with all rules of behavior as set forth in the Library Board’s statement of Policies Governing Behavior in the Library. [Copies of this policy statement are available from all public service desks.] Persons found eating or drinking, littering, engaging in loud, disruptive conversation or conduct, defacing library property, or otherwise acting inappropriately and/or irresponsibly while using a study room will be required to leave the room and the library immediately.

Sale of Goods/Services Prohibited: Library study rooms may not be used to distribute or sell goods or services of any kind, including—but not limited to— paid tutoring services.
