Position:
Circulation Desk Clerk
19 hrs per week with some nights and weekend hours
$10 per hour
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in public/customer service
- Computer literacy, including ability to type, use a mouse and navigate Microsoft Windows
- Ability to lift/carry/grip individual books weighing up to 20 pounds and visual acuity to read fine print and numbers
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to recall detailed policies and procedures without supervision
- Commitment to public service, including promptness and dependability
Desired Skills:
- Library related experience preferred
- Ability to maintain a pleasant, approachable demeanor when working with the public and staff
- Ability to effectively handle patron complaints and other problems in a calm manner using independent judgment
- Ability to keyboard and file accurately and recall detailed policies and procedures.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently handle a variety of duties in the proper order of priority without supervision
- Stamina to handle a large volume of work at a busy desk
Job Responsibilities:
To provide high-quality public service, handling all routinecirculationprocedures and explainingcirculationpolicies and procedures to the public in a professional manner. Duties are defined substantially by, but not necessarily limited to, the following:
Primary Duties:
- Circulate library materials and process returned items
- Collect appropriate fines and fees
- Prepare overdue notices and bills
- Handle all aspects of patron registration including entering patron data in the computer.
- Handle telephone inquiries and route calls as appropriate
- Retrieve book drop when necessary
- Resolve problems related to materials with missing or damaged parts, including searching shelves for missing parts and notifying patrons
- Assist with self checkout
- Assist with copy machines
- Operate a cash register
