Fall Art Exhibit

Book to Painting: a visceral exploration by Marcella Volini

A graduate of Hinsdale Central High School, Marcella Volini earned her BFA in General Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art. While enrolled, Marcella was involved in numerous curated and juried exhibitions. Working primarily in hand papermaking and textile, she combines an aged folk aesthetic with autobiographical themes.

Her most recent series, “Pages Fragmented and Sewn,” is drawn from spreads within artist books she created in 2012-2013. Text, color, and overall likeness are transformed from the pages of the book. Also on display are autobiographical paintings which use found objects and other materials to capture moments in the artist’s life. The two bodies of work are drawn together through the use of autobiographical references, abstracted images, and sewn text.
