swan_logoLibrary Catalog Migration

HPL, along with all 77 libraries in System Wide Automated Network (SWAN), will upgrade to a new catalog with added features this April. Some of the new features include better search results and easier eBook checkout. Learn more at http://new.swanlibraries.net.

  • Update your contact information on file. Your PIN will default to the last four digits of the phone number on your account. (It can be changed after logging in the first time following the migration.)
  • If you use the Wish List feature under My Account, be sure to export it before the migration by following the steps at new.swanlibraries.net/content/my-wish-lists. Ask a staff member for assistance.
  • Your existing library card will continue to work with the new catalog. All of your checkouts, holds, and other information including your reading history, if it is enabled, will transfer.
  • Once the catalog is live, you will need to update your browser bookmarks, as the current page will not redirect.

April 10: Be sure your contact information is updated. Deadline for copying SWAN Wish Lists.

April 11–13: We will be working offline, so no items will be checked in, nor can they be renewed. All materials checked out during the offline period will be granted a 3-week due date. Please bring your library card with you during this time to help speed up the checkout process.

April 14: The new catalog arrives! Change your PIN and update your browser bookmarks.

Patinas from the American Civil War

William Blake moved to Hinsdale with his family when he was seven and is a graduate of Hinsdale Central High School. He studied at the Florence Academy of Art in the summer of 2012, the Glasgow School of Art in the spring of 2013 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 2014.

Blake uses the techniques of classical representation in order to create his portraits. His beautifully rendered paintings are filled with figures taken from western history and from his own life. Using muted tones and direct gazes he creates the sense of stillness and reflection. Appropriating imagery from old masters, film, and contemporary art he touches on ideas of nationality, dualism, politics, violence, and nostalgia.

The exhibit, located in the Quiet Reading Room, is free and open to the public during regular Library hours.
